What to Expect

Walking into a therapist’s office can feel surprisingly vulnerable.

You might wonder what to say, whether you’re doing therapy right, whether you’ll be understood – or whether you’ll like me.

You don’t have to get any of that right. We’ll begin with whatever is actually present.

Embodied Emotion - Anxiety and Trauma Therapy

A Gentle Beginning

When you arrive, I’ll probably make us a pot of tea.

You’ll find a warm, comfortable room in Hillsborough, Auckland, with enough space to sit, stand, move around, or simply settle in.

There is no rush and no pressure to dive straight into the difficult stuff. Sometimes we begin with conversation. Sometimes with silence. Sometimes with whatever happened on the drive over.

Finding Our Way Together

I don’t have a sequence of questions to get through or an agenda that matters more than you do.

Instead, we’ll pay attention to what is happening. I may notice a hesitation, a change in your breathing, an impulse to agree, or something that seems difficult to put into words. I might offer a possibility, ask a question, or simply leave enough space for something more honest to emerge.

You are always free to say:
“No, that’s not it.”
“I don’t want to go there.”
“Can we slow down?”

Those moments are not interruptions to the therapy. They are often the first step finding clarity, honouring your needs, and stepping into your power.

A Real Relationship

I’m not particularly interested in being mysterious or hiding behind a professional mask.

That doesn’t mean the sessions are about me—they aren’t. It means we can have genuine conversations, disagree, misunderstand each other, and notice what is happening between us.

You can tell me when I’ve got something wrong. You don’t need to protect my feelings, and we can slow down and repair things if something feels off. This is the lived experience of relating differently, and I will support you support you at every awkward turn.

A Collaborative Process

There is no single right way to do this work. Whether you prefer structured guidance or open-ended exploration, we will move at your pace. My goal is that you leave feeling heard, supported, and more at ease in yourself.

If you’re unsure whether this is the right fit for you, I offer a free introductory call and a discounted first session – you’re welcome to reach out.

Different Ways of Working

Depending on what feels useful, I may suggest something beyond conversation – movement, body awareness, imagery, creative exploration, or simply staying with an emotion until it becomes clearer.

Nothing is compulsory.
Everything is by invitation, and we can change direction at any time.

By the End of the First Session

My hope isn’t that you’ll leave “fixed.”

I’d like you to leave thinking:
“That felt different.”
“I could actually be myself.”
“I think I’d like to come back.”

Over Time

Feel at Home in Your Own Skin

Over time, you may find yourself more firmly connected to your own knowing—clearer about what feels right, what you need, and where your boundaries lie. Choices that once felt confusing may become simpler, and responses that once felt automatic may loosen their grip.

Old triggers may still arise, but they need not overwhelm you in the same way. You may be able to stay present, speak more honestly, trust your yes and your no, and move through life with greater freedom, self-respect and ease.

The aim is not merely to cope better, but to feel more fully at home in your own skin.
